Safari to Tanzania and Zanzibar
The best of East Africa
The best of East Africa
This is an example of a safari we organised for a family of four – children aged 12 and 16. Please remember this is just an example of the type of safari we can organise for you. Other African countries in which we operate include Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Each is so different from the next and each trip is created personally for the client.
Day 1
Depart from Bristol for your short flight to Amsterdam. After a short layover, you will board your onward overnight flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania.
Day 2
You will wake this morning two hours before landing to an in-flight breakfast and immense views of the African savannah, and the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, as you come to land at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
On arrival, you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to Arusha Coffee Lodge where you will have the rest of the day to unwind and relax.
Days 3-5
This morning the real adventure begins! You will meet your guide who will accompany you for the next seven and drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. You will stay at Gibbs Farm for 2 nights where you will stay in the Bamboo unit (with interconnected rooms) on a full board basis.
Gibbs Farm is the perfect base from where you can explore the Ngorongoro Crater and the wonderfully diverse Lake Manyara National Park. It’s also a wonderful place for kids: It is a working farm, so you can get as involved as much or as little as you wish and learn about the cultivation of resources at the farm.
All meals, drinks and activities are included throughout your stay. If you would like to extend your stay to three nights, just let me know.
Days 6-9
Your guide will drive you west via Olduvai Gorge – a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its paleoanthropological importance – into the Serengeti National Park.
You will spend three nights in the Northern Serengeti at Serengeti Safari Camp. This seasonal mobile camp moves location every few months to ensure it’s in prime location for optimal game viewing.
You will have the use of one double and one twin tent, located adjacent to each other. The tents are well appointed with large queen-size beds, en suite facilities including a shower, private veranda and your own personal star gazing equipment.
July is the prime time to see the great wildebeest and zebra migration as it crosses the Grumeti and Lamai river (depending on exactly where the camp is) en route to Kenya and the Masai Mara. Huge, iconic river crossings take place right in front of your eyes. The Serengeti is, overall, quieter than Kenya’s Masai Mara so you’ll enjoy a more ‘natural’ feel to your game drives and viewings.
All meals, drinks and game viewing activities are included throughout your stay.
Days 10-13
You will be driven to the local airstrip where you will bid farewell to your guide and fly to the spice island of Zanzibar. On arrival into Zanzibar airport, you will be met by a representative from Breezes Beach Club and Spa who will transfer you to the resort.
Zanzibar is perfect for families for a post-safari wind down. The beaches are phenomenal – white, squeaky sand between your toes – and there is plenty to keep you and the kids busy when you’re not relaxing: scuba diving, sailing, snorkelling and water skiing, for example.
Day 14
This morning you will fly from Zanzibar back to Kilimanjaro International Airport, from where you will check in to your international flight back to Bristol, via Amsterdam. The seamless journey works well and ensures there is minimal check-in formalities (which we appreciate can be a challenge with kids!).
