Rhine & Moselle Wonders: A Journey Through Germany

Day 1: Arrival in Cologne – A Grand Beginning

I arrived smoothly in Cologne and was greeted with a warm welcome from the Riviera Travel crew. For the duration of my fam trip, I stayed aboard the MS Emily Brontë—an elegant, modern ship that sparkled with cleanliness and style.

My German adventure began in Cologne, a vibrant city were centuries of history blend effortlessly with contemporary life. The iconic Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) greeted me like an old friend—majestic, towering, and utterly awe-inspiring.

After settling in, I wandered the charming Old Town, sampled Kölsch beer in a traditional Brauhaus, and strolled the Rhine Promenade as golden hour cast a warm glow over the city. The excitement of the journey ahead was palpable.

Day 2: Cochem – A Fairytale Come to Life

Today I travelled to Cochem, nestled along the Moselle River. The town looked like something out of a fairytale, with its half-timbered houses and medieval charm.

The highlight was Reichsburg Castle, perched high above the town, offering breathtaking views of the valley below. After exploring the castle, I strolled through the quaint market square and rode the Sesselbahn chairlift, which gave me sweeping views of the vineyards and riverbanks. A peaceful evening walks along the promenade rounded off a magical day.

Day 3: Trier – Stepping Back in Time

My journey continued to Trier, Germany’s oldest city. It felt like walking through a living museum. From the monumental Porta Nigra to the Roman Amphitheatre and Imperial Baths, history was around every corner.

I also visited the Trier Cathedral, one of the oldest in the country. The fusion of Roman relics and Baroque elegance left me both inspired and humbled.

Day 4: Bernkastel-Kues – Moselle Magic

Day four brought me to the picturesque town of Bernkastel-Kues. With its cobbled lanes, colorful facades, and cozy wine taverns, it was impossible not to fall in love.

I hiked up to the Landshut Castle ruins, where stunning views of the Moselle River rewarded my effort. A local wine tasting was the perfect finale—Riesling has never tasted so crisp, fresh, and delicious.

Day 5: Koblenz & Boppard – Where Rivers Meet

Today’s adventure took me to Koblenz, dramatically set at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. At Deutsches Eck (German Corner), I stood before the towering equestrian statue of Emperor Wilhelm I, marking the meeting point of two mighty rivers.

Later, I rode the Koblenz cable car, soaring over the river toward Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, before heading to Boppard, a hidden gem with riverside charm. A guided walking tour brought the town’s stories to life.

Day 6: Rüdesheim – Castles and Legends

I cruised through the legendary Rhine Gorge today, where vineyard-covered hills and medieval castles dotted the landscape like a storybook come to life. I passed the mysterious Lorelei Rock, steeped in myth and folklore.

In Rüdesheim, I explored the buzzing Drosselgasse, a narrow lane brimming with music, wine taverns, and lively energy. A visit to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet added a quirky, delightful twist to the day.

Day 7: Return to Cologne – Full Circle

Returning to Cologne, I took a moment to reflect on the unforgettable journey. I revisited the cathedral one last time, still as awe-inspiring as the first.

My final dinner along the Rhine was filled with laughter, scenic views, and the clinking of glasses—a perfect way to bring the trip full circle.

Day 8: Homeward Bound – With a Heart Full of Memories

As I packed my bags and said farewell to Germany, one thing was certain: this trip had left a deep impression. With its charming towns, rich history, dramatic landscapes, and welcoming people, this wasn’t just a holiday—it was a story I’ll relive time and time again.
