Greece Island Hopping: 5 Nights, 3 Islands & Athen

Greece Island Hopping: 5 Nights, 3 Islands & Athens Adventure

Catherine shares her five-night adventure through three beautiful Greek islands and historic Athens:

Island hopping in Greece is as dreamy as it sounds – and in just five nights, we managed to explore three incredible islands and the historic capital of Athens, all with seamless transfers, great food, and unforgettable views.

Arrival in Athens

We flew direct from Gatwick with Sky Express, and after a smooth 3-hour flight, landed in Athens where an Olympic Holidays representative greeted us with our full itinerary. From there, we were transferred to the Port Tower Hotel in Piraeus — a recently renovated hotel in the perfect location to catch our ferry the next morning.

First Stop: Agistri

After a delicious breakfast, we headed to the port just five minutes away and boarded The Flying Dolphin ferry for a quick 55-minute ride to Agistri — a lush, pine-covered island with crystal-clear waters ideal for snorkelling and diving.

We stayed at the Yianna Hotel, a charming, family-run property just a short walk from Skala, home to shops, tavernas, and a beautiful beach.

Highlights:

• A private island tour with the amazing Panos, who showed us hidden gems and shared the island’s rich history.

• Cycling and hiking – if you’re cycling, go electric! Some hills can be tough, but it’s the best way to discover secluded beaches.

• A relaxed hosted BBQ night at the hotel with a great atmosphere.

Next Stop: Aegina

A short 10-minute ferry from Agistri brought us to Aegina, a charming island famous for its pistachios.

Must-Do:

• Sampling local pistachio products — pistachio ice cream is a must while enjoying views of the harbour.

• Wandering through Aegina town and soaking up the laid-back vibe.

Poros: A Peaceful Escape

From Aegina, we caught a ferry to Poros (about an hour’s journey). Watching the island appear as we approached from the ferry deck was simply beautiful.

We stayed at the Golden Beach Hotel, perfectly positioned right on the beach with gorgeous sea views. The hotel is about a 15–20-minute walk to the town (or a quick 5-euro taxi ride).

Highlights:

• Climbing to the clock tower – the panoramic views were sensational and made for a perfect photo opportunity.

• Enjoying the relaxed town, lined with waterfront tavernas and boutique shops.

Final Nights: Luxury in Athens

For our last two nights, we took the Hydrofoil fast ferry back to Athens (just 1 hour) and were transferred to the Grand Resort Lagonissi — a stunning seaside retreat and proud member of the Leading Hotels of the World.

The Resort:

• Located on a private peninsula, just an hour from the city.

• Choose from sunrise or sunset view rooms.

• Dine at nine incredible restaurants — we tried four, and each meal was a highlight.

Final Day in Athens

No trip to Greece is complete without:

• Trying a traditional Gyros in Athens city — absolutely delicious!

• Visiting the Acropolis Museum with a local guide, followed by a walk up to the Acropolis itself — a truly awe-inspiring experience.

                    .

Heading Home

The hotel is just 20 minutes from Athens Airport, making the journey home easy and stress-free. We said our goodbyes to the amazing staff and headed to the airport for our flight back to Gatwick.

Final Thoughts

In just five nights, we experienced the beauty and variety of three Greek islands and historic Athens — all without a single worry. The trip ran seamlessly from start to finish and showed us just how effortless and rewarding a Greek island-hopping adventure can be.
